Home service pricing is opaque. You get one quote, you have no reference point, and you're expected to just... trust it. We built TryFair to fix that.
TryFair gives you a fair price range for any home service in your city, so you can spot overcharges before you sign. No accounts, no ads, no affiliate links to contractors.
We source real permit records from municipalities across the US showing actual project costs (roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing). These are verified transactions, not estimates. And growing.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes occupational wage data (OEWS) by metro area. We use prevailing labor rates as a baseline, adjusted for CPI inflation to current year.
Homeowners submit what they actually paid. Each submission is attributed to a city and service type. This is the fastest-growing layer of our data — and the most accurate for recent prices.
For each service in your city, we compute a min / average / max range. If your city has fewer than 3 data points, we fall back to state-level data, then national averages — and we label which level we're using.
The Fair Score (1–100) maps your quote to where it lands in that range. 50 = at average. Above 80 = likely overpriced. Below 20 = suspiciously low or limited scope.
